Our history with Parsons

Kalen and "Mimsey"

Our Background;

We’ve owned and loved Parson Russell (previously known as Jack Russell Terriers) since acquiring our first in the north of England in 1979. We were on a fun-filled camping trip to Great Britain. This was not our first time to the British Isles, and we were taking in all the sights that were missed on previous trips. This time, we had rented a RV and headed up the East side of England as far north as Edinburgh, Scotland. We were fascinated by all the darling little terriers we saw everywhere! Some were short-legged and others long-legged, mostly white and with the jauntiest little attitudes!  By the time we arrived in the “Lake District” I had decided that we needed to take home one of these amazing little dogs. We started making phone calls, and located a breeder by the name of William Brightmore, who lived in the tiny little town of “Brough”. “Yes”, they had one puppy left. He was already 6 months of age and almost all white. It was a “dog” puppy. After a few minutes of going around and around with Bill’s wife “But is it a male or a female”, it was surmised that “bitch” was a female and “dog” was a male!

We arrived at the “Brightmore” residence on the edge of the moors. In the distance was a “dig” for remnants of an old Roman wall, and the most amazing house and barn (which was attached). It was just like out of a picture book of those beautiful quaint little towns in the British countryside. We were enthralled! In a stall in the barn was the puppy, an all white half grown puppy with polka dots on his ears. He was our introduction to the breed, and yes, we bought him and took him back to the States. This was our start with the wonderful world of Parson Russell Terriers. Since importing “Brough” to the States, over the past 29 the years, we’ve imported three more terriers. The next two imports were “Dibs” and “Ravel”, both ½ brothers to “Brough” sired by the same father “Sovereign”, in his day, one of the top working terriers in Great Britain. The mothers were “Tally” and “Tangle”. Both males were purchased from Beverly Walker (working Terrierman from north of London). Later in 1991 we brought over a female Jack Russell Terrier (Registered with the Jack Russell Terrier Club of Great Britain), from Tarsia Kennel of Ann Brewer. This was Tarsia Halo, a tri-colored female sired by Tarsia Pirate. We understand that Ann Brewer no longer raises Jack Russell Terriers, but she had wonderful quality, many of whom were owned and loved by world-wide celebrities.
